Professor Giorgio Mariani is a leading scholar of American literature in Italy, and teaches American literature at the Sapienza University of Rome. He has received his Ph.D. from Rutgers University. He is past President of the International Association of American Studies and co-director of the Italian journal "Ácoma: Rivista internazionale di Studi Nordamericani". His latest book, Waging War on War: Peacefighting in American Literature, was just published in December 2015 by the University of Illinois Press.

The lecture and discussion will focus on the Iraq War poet Brian Turner.
